How Does CBD Work?

The human body contains a complex cell-signaling structure known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS).  The ECS is responsible for regulating and balancing many processes in the body (homeostasis), including immune response, communication between cells, appetite, metabolism, memory, sleep, mood, anxiety, reproduction, pain sensation and more.  It accomplishes this task by “listening” to conditions through cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, acting as the sensors and responding by releasing into the body endocannabinoids to address the condition.

Plant-based cannabinoids don’t interact directly with cannabinoid receptors rather, they stimulate the ECS to produce its own cannabinoids. In addition, it slows their breakdown by inhibiting the FAAH enzyme, so the endocannabinoids can stay in your body for longer. Researchers are still learning how and why ECS functions.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is 1 of 113 active compounds (cannabinoids) found in the cannabis (hemp) plant and does not give you a high. It is specifically, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a different cannabinoid from CBD, which does so.  All our products are THC-Free.
